Intellectual Outcomes

IO 1 - Online platform

The objective was to develop an online platform to aggregate all the Project’s contents and resources (flash cards, videos, digital brochure, exercises, papers, reports,...) and to build a collaborative online community and also to use as a way to disseminate the project and to serve as a website for the final conference.

IO 2 - App

The objective of the digital brochure is to help the teachers to be aware of the richness of their surrounding environment to develop their students’ skills and knowledge. It will work as an app on a tablet. The teachers will choose a picture corresponding to their visual environment. From that moment, a database of activities (pictures, videos and activity form) will be displayed to develop transversal and disciplinary skills. To maintain the sustainability of this digital brochure, the teachers will have the possibility to send new activities (form and pictures) to the moderator (HELV). This will enrich the database.

IO 3 - Applied and pedagogical research

The objective is to give a state of the art from different realities and contexts of teaching methodologies about ‘the outdoor as a learning environment’ within our different countries. We investigate how we can use these methodologies as a basis for working on ‘the outdoor as a way to enhance ECEC and to promote active citizenship’ within the different countries. We are going to look for teaching methodologies that work in a certain context (0-3y, 3-6y, 0-6y) and that can be used as a basis for our other outcomes like the online module.

IO 4 - Action Cam Video Database

We will develop a collection/database of videos capturing micro-interactions between children and the outdoor environment in different contexts distributed across countries: for example the city of Mechelen, the school playground (and its surroundings) of basisschool the Ham, the natural outdoor environment (‘t Zwiebelbos) at campus Kruidtuin (TMMechelen), the forest and the local town Aabenraa as the playground for a forest kindergarden (UCSYD), early years school playgrounds in Hampshire, UK (Wallisdean Infant School and Wildflowers Kindergarten).

IO 5 - Educating the reflective practitioner

Closely connected to the video-database we will develop exercises to work with the database on the one hand and on the other hand these exercises can be used on their one without the imagedatabase. The exercises will help professionals (teachers, policy-makers, architects, …) and parents to interpret the video traces of the interactions between children and the outdoor environment. These tools and exercise will help them value, read and imagine the outdoors as a learning environment in early childhood.

IO 6 - Flash cards

The objective is to develop a database of flash cards evidencing activities carried out by children in situations of outdoor education, linked to innovative practices in early childhood education with a strong inclusive nature and aimed at the empowerment of children in the accomplishment of outdoor activities.

IO 7 - Online module

The objective of this output is to develop a course to make the ECEC professionals understand and transfer the benefits of outdoor learning in the child global development (transversal, disciplinary, interdisciplinary skills).
